A CHRISTMAS extravaganza raised more than £1,000 at the Garden Store in Ross.

Mayor of Ross-on-Wye Colin Gray and his wife and mayoress, Anne, raised the funds for the mayor's charity which is supporting St Michael's Hospice in Hereford.

Cllr Gray thanked the Garden Store staff, Mo the donkey, Miss Kitty and Cyclops and Gavin Oates.

He added: "It was great to see and watch the wonderful singing and dancing from the pupils from Walford School.

"The Father Christmas was a great success. I am most grateful to both Roger Kinsey-Smith and Melvyn Hodges for their support."

There was music from the Ross-on-Wye Town Band and Harry Abbott and Ben Abbott compered for the evening.

He also thanked Joyce Thomas, Iris Price, Cynthia Brain, Gwyneth Gill, Paul Deneen and the public for supporting the event.

Nicky West, chief executive of St Michael's Hospice said: "Both Colin and Anne must be congratulated for their wonderful support of St Michael's Hospice over many years. The event this evening was fantastic and was enjoyed by all concerned."
