A SCHOOLBOY has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Worcester this morning.

The 11-year-old boy was involved in the collision in Bransford Road in the St John's area outside the Our Lady Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Primary School.

An ambulance and paramedic officer from the West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to the scene at 8.13am today.

The boy, who is a pupil at Christopher Whitehead Language College and Sixth Form, reported having lower back pains and he was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the red Kia Cerato involved in the incident was a 45-year-old man.

No arrests have been made but enquiries are ongoing to establish what happened.

A spokesperson at Christopher Whitehead Language College and Sixth Form said they were reiterating the importance of road safety with the students, something they added was a regular occurrence at the school.

They said: "It was a student at our school. He is absolutely fine, a little bit bruised.

"We are reiterating safety on the roads with the students, which is a regular thing.

"Mum and dad are with him and have been for a while now."
