A HISTORY group whose walking tours reveal the secrets of the Severn is backing a festival celebrating the river which runs through the city.

Paul Harding, lead guide for the Discover History walking tours, said The Severn Story would allow people attending Saturday's festival to learn more about the river.

Mr Harding said: "The Severn Story is a perfect accompaniment to the Severn Festival.

"Visitors and citizens of Worcester will be amazed at the wealth of heritage along the banks of the River.

"Worcester was created due to the River Severn.

"Hunter gatherers at the end of the last Ice Age were drawn to the banks for food and drink.

"Woolly mammoths, herds of reindeer and fish swimming in the cool waters all built, what today, is the Cathedral and university city we all know and love.

"The riverside is dotted with Medieval walls, gates, buildings, and features which will be explained on the 90 minute tour."

Tours will leave the Guildhall at 10.30am and 2pm on Saturday.

Booking is essential and can be made by emailing Discoverhistory@aol.com or calling 07949 222137.

Tours cost £5 per person.
