IF hedgehogs could drink beer they would be downing pints of Old Prickly.
The British Hedgehog Preservation Society and Hobsons Brewery hosted a special event to launch a beer inspired by our spikey friends.
It has been brewed to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of BHPS. For every pint and bottle sold Hobsons will donate 5p to the charity.
The launch took place at The Golden Cross, Clee where in honour of the charity the landlord renamed the pub for the evening, installing an impressive new pub sign –The Cross Hedgehog.
Local entertainers John Nicholas and Terry Tandler had the crowd singing along to many traditional, and not so traditional, folk songs as well as conjuring up a variety of instruments and even puppets to the delight of the crowd.
Local businesses such as Richard C Swift bakery donated some spectacular ‘hedgehog’ bread for the buffet, and Rudd Macnamara, donated the pump clips for the pubs that will be selling Old Prickly on draught.
“We were delighted with the turn out at the launch night and would like to thank all involved in making the evening such a success,”
said Fa Vass, chief executive of the BHPS.
“Old Prickly was very well received so hopefully it will continue to sell well and raise funds for the Charity.”
Nick Davis, owner at Hobsons Brewery added that they were proud to be involved in the event.
“It was fantastic evening to launch the beer and great to see the support of so many people from local businesses, publicans, friends of the charity and the hedgehog carers,” he said.
