HARD pressed businesses in south Shropshire will get paid more quickly if they agree to have invoices paid electronically.

Heather Kidd, leader of the Lib Dems on South Shropshire District Council, says she has persuaded the authority to come clean on how local businesses and other creditors can get paid sooner by the council.

“In these tough economic times many local businesses are having problems with their cash flow, and the last thing you want is a local authority dragging its heels in paying,” said Heather Kidd.

“Therefore, I asked a question to full council on Thursday about the length of time it takes by the council to pay its bills.

“The council answer of 30 days was not terribly helpful given current economic circumstances.

"However, what was much more useful was the admission that they would pay much more quickly if creditors would be happy to accept electronic transfer of funds (BACS). Payment by cheque takes a week longer,” said Coun Kidd.
