A CASH machine was stolen from a supermarket in Ludlow.

Police who have launched an appeal say that the machine contained what they describe as ‘a large sum of money.’

Police were called on Sunday morning (August 20), to a report of a burglary at the Co-Op on Foldgate Lane.

It is believed that the incident happened between the hours of 11pm on Saturday 19 August and 3:45am on Sunday.

Unknown offenders have forced entry into the premises and have targeted a standalone ATM machine. They have then forced entry into the machine and stolen a large amount of money before fleeing the scene.

"A thorough investigation is underway and officers are conducting extensive enquiries in order to locate the offenders,” said Detective Constable Nia Wood of West Mercia Police.

"We would like to hear from anyone who has information about this incident, or who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area at the time.

"House-to-house enquiries are being conducted and there will be additional patrols in the area."
