A VOLUNTEER army is being formed to help at a beauty spot in Craven Arms.

The team will get to work on Onny Meadow at the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre.

Amanda Apps has recently joined the team here at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre as the ranger and is running work parties to assist with our exciting developments in the meadows.

“I just love preserving local areas, not just for us today but for future generations and I love the site here at the centre for its varied species and I am passionate about linking the local community, as part of the Grow Cook Learn ethos, to the diverse habitats here and to continue the success of the centre as a whole,” she said.

Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre is by a charity, Grow Cook Learn with the main aim to connect people to the food, history and the landscape of the Shropshire Hills.

It depends upon grant-funding and income from visitors, as well as the help of volunteers, to keep the centre open for all to enjoy.

There are some volunteers that help one day a week in the shop, or the café and also volunteers that are keen to get outside and assist with works in the meadows.

Amanda is running regular, monthly work parties for anyone that wants to assist with this work in the meadows and car park.

It is not required for volunteers to attend every session and people can help on a casual basis.

The group meets on the first Sunday of every month at 10am at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre and volunteers are welcome to leave early or come a little later.
