THE outlook for young people in Ludlow and south Shropshire remains very bleak.

It was a gloomy message from Kim Skinner from the Ludlow Foyer.

She was speaking as she collected a cheque for more than £4,000 from former Ludlow Mayor Paul Draper.

The Foyer, which provides accommodation for young people up to the age of 25 years who would otherwise be homeless, has been the Mayoral Charity for Paul Draper in the past year.

As well as offering accommodation, the Foyer also provides mentoring and other support for young people in crisis.

Kim Skinner said young people were at the front of the queue when it comes to the impact of austerity.

She told the audience at the Ludlow mayor-making ceremony that the accommodation for young homeless people in Shropshire had been reduced from 59 to 19 beds.

Kim Skinner also said that these people were being hit by changes to the benefit system and growing youth unemployment.

Jed Davies, aged 22, who has been a resident at the Foyer for three months spoke of the way that the facility has given him a chance.
