A LUDLOW man has appeared in court accused of causing the death of a pensioner by driving without due care and while under the influence of drugs

Scott Morris, 19, is alleged to have caused the death of 75-year-old Myrtle Sarah Braund on the A49 near Craven Arms in August last year.

His Ford Fiesta is said to have been involved in a collision involving another car and a private ambulance in which the victim was a passenger.

Morris, of Lime Close, Ludlow, appeared at Telford magistrates court last week when his case was committed to the crown court.

He is due to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on July 3 for a plea and trial preparation hearing. He was allowed bail.

Mrs Braund, who was known as Mytzi, was a retired artist and lived at the Four Rivers Nursing Home in Bromfield Road, Ludlow.

She was returning to the home in the ambulance having been earlier discharged from the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. She suffered chest injuries in the accident and later died in hospital.

The ambulance driver and two other people travelling in the Fiesta were also injured in the crash which happened on August 8 on the A49 between Craven Arms and Little Stretton.
