AFTER 20 years working with thousands of young people a youth project in the Teme Valley is closing its doors.

The problems in both recruiting staff and securing funding has been blamed for the decision.

But it is hoped that other groups will be formed to help to fill the gap.

“After 20 years providing information, support, youth activities and opportunities in this very rural area of North Herefordshire and South Shropshire, the Trustees of Teme Valley Youth Project regret to announce that they have decided to wind up the charity,” said a statement issues by the Trustees.

“It has become increasingly difficult to recruit suitable staff and trustees and access long-term funding to become sustainable.

“In addition, there is a reduced demand for the style of youth work provided by Teme Valley Youth Project for its target age group.

“Other community groups may wish to set up activities and opportunities for young people and the remaining funds are being made available to help.”

Trustees have set up a fund to be held and administered by Herefordshire Community Foundation that young people and community groups can access to deliver opportunities and activities.

The trustees hope that this will offer a positive ending for the project while handing on the baton to new community groups and young people.

In addition, it is hoped to be able to use the funds to match-fund further money that can also be made available in this area to engage and inspire young people.
