FOOD businesses are being asked to see if they can follow the example of the Ludlow Nut Company.

The Nut Company based on the Eco Park in Ludlow is selling its breakfast cereals to Japan and other parts of the world.

Now Ludlow MP Philip Dunne is encouraging food and drink producers in south Shropshire to attend an event organised by the Department for International Trade, to meet international buyers and learn more about exports.

The event takes place on Wednesday (March 8) at Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, from 10.30am to 5pm.

Attendees will have the chance to meet international buyers from China, Hong Kong and Japan, and international trade experts covering European markets.

“South Shropshire is known for producing excellent food and drink, and opening up export markets could lead to strong job creation and growth here in the Ludlow constituency,” said Philip Dunne.

“So I encourage local food and drink producers to sign up for this event, and meet potential buyers and international trade experts who can provide experienced advice.

"If you cannot attend but are interested in exporting, consider having a look at the new Department for International Trade’s website, which has useful information on how to get started.”

The buyers present on the day will include:

The Beery Bay Hong Kong, who important speciality beers from the UK

Inn Beers Co Ltd, who have been importing beers and ciders to Japan for almost 20 years

Yao Lu Trading Ltd, which focuses on importing British cider to China
