AN EVENT has been staged promoting the role of town councillors in Ludlow in the hope that more people will consider taking on the role.

Following a request by the People’s Alliance for Ludlow and interest shown by Ludlow Town Council and the Town Centre Residents Association, the evening was aimed at explaining the work entailed in being a local councillor and the electoral process by which councillors are elected.

Paul Draper, Mayor of Ludlow, said that it was good that people are interested in the work of the town council and said that it would be a good thing if the elections in May are contested.

Denise Thompson, speaking on behalf of ‘P4L’ (People’s Alliance for Ludlow) spoke at the meeting with a particular stress on the importance of community involvement with local government, more informal debate and preparedness to delegate to community groups.

“It was fascinating to hear individual councillors relating what brought them personally to stand for council and what the pitfalls and highlights are – to understand them as individuals was very refreshing,” she said.

Elections for all 15 seats on Ludlow Town Council will be contested on Thursday, May 4 with nominations required by Tuesday, April 4.
