THE retro look has become so popular that a Ludlow hair saloon is kitting itself out in the style of the 1940s and 1950s.

Jigsaw, in the town centre, is taking on the look that grandad and grandma would have recognised.

It is the idea of Heidi Boden who runs the saloon and she has been looking all around the country for authentic equipment from the war and immediate post-war years.

The 35-year-old has managed to find one chair that was used by one of Ludlow’s legendary hairdressers.

It used to belong to Derek Wright who died a few years ago but continued to cut hair from home into his 90s.

Heidi is sure that many people will remember Derek although she believes that he closed his barber’s shop in the town as long ago as the 1970s.

“I am sure that a lot of people will remember Derek with fondness and there are many people who will have sat in his chair,” said Heidi.

“It is wonderful that I have been able to recover it and put it back into use in the saloon.”

She said that many people had a nostalgia and longing for a bygone age.

“In going back to the style of a different era, we will be providing people with something very different from what they are used to now,” said Heidi.

“It was a time that many people look back to with fondness and that is often associated with style.”

Heidi says that her search for things 1940s and 1950s has taken her all over the country and that the memorabilia and artefacts include not only hair-dressing equipment and tools but also price-lists and other printed matter.
