A SCHEME has been launched to help provide affordable firewood to people living in Ludlow and south Shropshire.

Shropshire Rural Communities Charity and the Wyre Community Land Trust have teamed up in a new venture to support the sustainable management of ancient woodland in the Wyre Forest while offering an affordable supply of firewood to local residents.

The partnership between Shropshire Rural Communities Charity and the Wyre Community Land Trust is helping to find a different way to provide wood fuel to our local communities.

Customers are able to access a range of products including vented log bags, pre-fabricated log stores that come delivered full of logs, ideal for those with limited storage space. Logs are billeted and air-dried until they get to moisture content of below 25 per cent and normally lower.

Ordering through the fuel-buying scheme means deliveries can be made in bulk, therefore lowering the unit price for customers.

The new addition of firewood enhances the range of fuel options available to current members of the Shropshire Rural Communities charity fuel buying scheme who can also access lower heating oil and LPG prices.
