UNSIGHTLY overhead power lines at the beauty spot near Ludlow have been removed and put underground.
Western Power Distribution has removed unsightly cables spoiling the view from Clee Hill Common across to the Malvern Hills.
More than 900 metres of overhead cabling has been removed on Clee Hill Common and placed underground.
Work has also taken place to clear poles and other infrastructure at the popular Clee Hill view point and car park, just above the village.
The work formed part of an ongoing initiative from Western Power Distribution to protect landscapes, working with National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Clee Hill Common is the latest Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to have been transformed so far.
Last year overhead wires at Rhos Fiddle at Crossways and Norbury were removed, and similar work has also taken place at Abdon Burf, Picklescott, Bucknell and Woolstaston.
“I am pleased these cables have been placed underground, removing an eyesore from the magnificent view from Clee Hill Common,” said Philip Dunne.
“Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a significant draw to tourists, particularly walkers, who come here to see the spectacular natural environment. So it is important that we remove any impact on the beauty of our area, where possible and practical.”
