THERE will be a debate in Ludlow in a bid to show that there is an alternative to austerity in turning the economy of the country around.
On Saturday, October 8 there’s a chance to find out more at a One Day Conference ‘Breaking the Austerity Myth’, which will be held in Ludlow Assembly Rooms, with free but ticketed entry.
‘Breaking the Austerity Myth’ is promoted by Ludlow Constituency Labour Party.
Three key speakers on economics will discuss issues including the nature of money, financial exclusion, co-operation, sustainable cities, ecofeminist political economy and social economics.
‘Breaking the Austerity Myth’ will challenge the ideas behind austerity and suggest other, more socially responsible ways to prosperity. It has had its basis the view that austerity is a political choice and there are alternatives.
The speakers are Professor Mary Mellor, Chair of Northumbria University’s Sustainable Cities Research Institute, Professor Costas Lapavitsas, Professor in Economics at SOAS, University of London and Charles Grimes, Chair of Hereford Positive Money.
There will also be opportunities for discussion and breakout groups during the day, which starts at 9.45am and ends at 4.30pm. Tickets must be booked, and are available at www.austeritymyth.org.
