THE Royal British Legion's Clee Hill and District Branch will be kicking off this year's appeal next month.

A prize bingo evening will be held at Clee Hill Village Hall at 8pm on October 22 when all proceeds will be donated to the Poppy Appeal.

Meanwhile, one of the RBL's most loyal volunteers has been presented with a certificate of appreciation to thank her for her efforts.

Jean Hollis has been selling poppies for a quarter of a century and George Williams, the Clee Hill and District Royal British Legion Chairman, thanked her on behalf of the branch.

Remembrance time will this year culminate in a service at St Peters Church, Clee Hill on Sunday, November 13 at 6:30pm.

This years’ service will focus on the Somme, being the 100th anniversary year of the conflict that remains the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army.
