TWO gardens in south Shropshire will throw their gates open to the public in August.

Mynd Hardy Plants at Diddlebury Hall between Ludlow and Bridgnorth and Upper Sheldon House and Clungunford will be open for late summer visitors in aid of the National Gardens Scheme.

On Sunday, August 21 Mynd Hardy Plants will be open between 11am and 5pm.

This is the final opportunity this season to see this walled garden that has been transformed in recent years and is a riot of colour in late summer.

There is also the opportunity to see the garden and lake surrounding neighbouring Delbury Hall. Admission is £4 for adults, free for children. Refreshments available. Most of the garden is wheelchair accessible.

A week later, Upper Shelderton House at Clungunford between Ludlow and Craven Arms is open on Sunday, August 28 and Bank Holiday Monday, August 29 from 2pm until 5pm.

This a large garden with woodland walks, specimen trees, ponds and streams as well as colourful borders.

The newly designed kitchen garden will be in full swing in late summer. Admission is £4 for adults, free for children. Refreshments and plants will be on sale.

Money raised from the opening of the gardens goes to charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospices UK and the Carers Trust. The scheme also supports Parkinson’s UK and for the first time this year, the MS Society.
