MORE than 20,000 people from all over the country converged upon south Shropshire for the Burwarton Show.

Town, village and countryside came together for the 125th time and there was something special to celebrate as the show has been granted the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Burwarton Show is organised entirely by volunteers and the accolade is regarded as the MBE for voluntary organisations.

There was the serious matter of farmers doing business and the judging of livestock from all over the country.

But there was also plenty of family entertainment including Show Jumping, Camels and Dancing Diggers. There were parades of heavy horses, foxhounds and carriages.

Amongst the other attractions was the Young Farmers’ Club Tug Of War that brought the day to a close.

Ludlow Concert Band played throughout the day as part of the entertainment on the Village Green.

The day was warm but not too hot for the people and animals with occasional rain showers in the morning.

Long service awards were made to John Roberts for 50 years continuous service to LH Dalton and son and to Neville Harter for 41 years of service to J R Jones and Co.
