PEOPLE living in Ludlow have been able to look around the town’s new museum.
An Open Day was staged at the new museum that has opened in The Buttercross.
The museum tells the story of the history of Ludlow and the surrounding area.
It is hoped that it will become an important all-of-the-year-round tourist attraction for Ludlow.
Visitors will find themselves in one of the town’s most historic building – the old butter market.
At one time The Buttercross was the office for Ludlow Town Council but staff had to move out following a ceiling collapse.
There has been extensive refurbishment and renovation including the installation of a lift that required special permission because the building is a listed monument.
It had been hoped that the museum would have been opened earlier and so been available to people who came to the town for the spring food festival and then the mid-summer arts festival.
However, by opening in late July it will be available for most of the school holiday period and also in time for Ludlow’s biggest weekend of the year – the main food festival that will be staged from Friday to Sunday on the second weekend of September.
