SOME of Ludlow finest small gardens will be open for viewing.

The festival of small gardens was the innovative brainchild of Angela Siminson and was started as an opportunity for the owners of smaller gardens to show what they can do.

In 2015 Angela Siminson stepped down from running the event, giving the Furniture Scheme the opportunity to continue and build on her ideas. It now operates from Rockspring Community Centre as part of their ongoing community development programme.

Having been dormant for a year, the 2016 festival is a revival of the original initiative to link residents and gardeners across all areas of the town.

With Rockspring Community Centre as its focus, each year gardeners from different areas of the town will be invited to open their gardens to the public, giving them the opportunity to display their hard work and share some of their ideas and experiences.

This year there are 12 gardens opening to the public in Gravel Hill, Julian Road, New Road, Whitefriars and in the Sandpits estate with a free bus running between Smithfield Car Park in Lower Galdeford and Rockspring Centre.

There will be refreshments at two locations, ice creams at the delightful open-space garden on the corner of Sandpits Avenue and sculptures from two local artists on display in some of the gardens.

The Ludlow Festival of Small Gardens is on Sunday, August 7. Tickets are £5 available in advance from Ludlow Assembly Rooms (01584 878141) and Rockspring Community Centre (01584 874922) and on the day – on the bus and at every garden.
