A PLAN to create a roof garden in Ludlow has been described as shocking.
It follows the lodging of a planning application to create the roof terrace on The Snicketts in Portcullis Lane.
The plan is to create a roof terrace on a single story building that currently has a pitched roof.
It is intended that the terrace would be used to house potted plants, tables and chairs and could be used to hang out washing.
But Andy Boddington, a Ludlow councillor on Shropshire Council is not impressed.
“The Snicketts is a quiet pedestrian alley between Corve Street and Portcullis Lane,” he said.
“The converted industrial buildings form a pleasant group of properties and are much in keeping with the historic character of the area.
“That may change if a roof garden is allowed.
An application has been submitted to remove the pitched roof and replace it with a roof garden, screened by a 1.6m high brick wall.
“I find this proposal really rather shocking.”
