EASTER was so early this year, don't you think?

Ten years ago there used to be a quiet season at St Laurence’s between Christmas and Easter, but in recent years we're busier than ever.

If you like numbers like me, over 10 years our annual visitor and pilgrim numbers have risen from 50,000 to 100,000. Unlike many churches we are very lucky, our doors are always open, we are grateful to the network of 200 volunteers who help welcome, greet and make St Laurence’s the welcome place that it is.

Each week people clean, arrange flowers, lead daily prayers, work in the shop, host coffee mornings; it’s a hive of activity.

On top of this generations of people have come to be baptised, married and remember their loved ones.

We all know what it costs to run our own lives, insurance, heating, lighting, shopping etc.

Did you know that it costs £1,000 per day to secure and maintain St Laurence’s?

Each year we spend £35,000 on heat, light and insurance alone. We raise this money through regular donations from our congregation, visitor income and special fundraising activities.

We receive no state funding and no funding from the diocese or ‘head office’. Without everyone’s generosity we couldn’t remain open and continue to be a beacon in the heart of Ludlow.

This year we have appealed to all who love St Laurence’s; worshippers, volunteers and visitors to consider sparing just one cup of coffee per week; yes, just £2 per week can make all the difference. It’s easy to give via standing order or by JustGiving.

Most importantly, come and visit us some time, we’re open every day, 10am – 5pm, with coffee/tea always available in the shop. Whether you’re looking to volunteer, meet new people or simply enjoy some quiet time, you’ll always be welcome.
