NEARLY a decade after Ludlow was last affected by major flooding a group is to reform to ensure proper protection is in place.

A flood forum is to be set up amid fears that memories are short and that the flood that devastated the town in 2007 is being forgotten.

“Ludlow, as we know, has been prone to flooding over the years,” said Andy Boddington who represents the town on Shropshire Council.

“For some while, we had a local flood forum but this stopped meeting after memories of the 2007 floods faded and the new unitary authority was established.”

An initial meeting of the new group will take place under the umbrella of the Ludlow and Clee Local Joint Committee.

“The main purpose of the meeting is to re-establish the flood forum,” added Andy Boddington.

“We will be joined by Cecelia Motley, the cabinet member for rural communities and others with expertise in flooding.”

He said people with an interest in the flooding issue are welcome to attend the meeting.

It will take place at the Foyer in Ludlow at 5pm on Tuesday (April 19) at 5pm.
