THE group that looks after churchyards in south Shropshire has a new team leader in the area.

Caring for God’s Acre, the national charity based in Shropshire, has a special team of volunteers who visit south Shropshire churchyards each Tuesday helping with much needed practical conservation work.

The volunteer team, known as the Churchyard Task Team (CTT) has been working for the last nine years and in that time has achieved a huge amount in terms of numbers of churchyards helped.

Now the team has a new Volunteer Coordinator, Ben Mullen. He will be working four days a week to support the Churchyard Task Team volunteers and arrange with local church groups what work is required and when and how it will be done.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the team and am excited to be carrying out conservation in sites which are so valuable to people and wildlife,” said Ben Mullen who previously worked in the Brecon Beacons for the National Trust.

Volunteers learn new skills, meet new people, see beautiful places and will be made welcome by the only charity solely concerned with promoting the conservation of churchyards and burial sites.
