LUDLOW MP Philip Dunne wants to help raise awareness of dementia.

He is backing an international campaign to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s, organised by Alzheimer’s Disease International.

September 2015 is global World Alzheimer’s Month, focussing this year on encouraging people around the world to learn to spot the signs of dementia, and not to forget about loved ones who are living with dementia, or those who may have passed away.

“Over a quarter of residents in the Ludlow Constituency are past retirement age – and are more likely to suffer from dementia or Alzheimer’s,” said Philip Dunne.

“It is important people are made aware of the early symptoms, and that everyone can access the information they need to help cope with this disease.

“The Government takes dementia and Alzheimer’s seriously. In 2012 the Prime Minister launched a national campaign, focussed on improving healthcare, and we are investing £300 million in the next five years into dementia research.

“To date, over one million people have been trained as Dementia Friends, including last year the Prime Minister and the Cabinet, as well as 400,000 NHS staff and 100,000 social care staff.

“There is a wide range of support and information available for those with dementia, and their families and friends. I encourage local residents to learn more about the disease during World Alzheimer’s Month and spread further awareness in our communities.”
