WHEELCHAIR users in Ludlow and south Shropshire are being asked to take part in a review designed to ensure they get the "right chair, right time, right now".

The review is linking in with a national programme by the Wheelchair Leadership Alliance headed by Paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thomson.

It's estimated that around two per cent of people in the UK use a wheelchair. But they could be risking their health and putting unnecessary pressure on NHS services if their chair isn't right for their needs.

"We are trying to build up a picture of all wheelchair use in the county as part of the national work,” said Fiona Ellis of the Shropshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

"It is really important users have the right chair for them, but there is actually very little centrally held information about wheelchair users.

Unsuitable wheelchairs can cause serious problems. It is estimated that 50 per cent of wheelchair users at some stage in their life develop a pressure ulcers, which can be very serious and require major medical treatment.

Anyone who uses a wheelchair or cares for a wheelchair user has until Thursday, October 1 to complete the online survey. They can go to http://www.shropshireccg.nhs.uk/have-your-say
