THE hot weather brought people in their thousands to a Ludlow beauty spot to cool off.

Sizzling hot weather and the attraction of cooling water have drawn record crowds to the riverside Millennium Green.

In just one week more than 3,800 people were recorded as visitors to the ‘Hot Spot’ green park on the bank of the Teme.

“Monitoring during daylight hours enabled us to make this count,” said David Edwards of the Millennium Green Trust.

“We are now a recognised tourist ‘destination’ for both townspeople and visitors.

"Of course hot weather is a bonus but even during a ‘normal’ period we are seeing many more school visits and an abundance of walkers and cyclists”.

The Millennium Green and Mill lie below Ludlow Castle.

Trustees continue a programme of outdoor entertainments for which there is a voluntary collection and no fixed admission charge.

On Saturday (July 11) from 10.30am the Shropshire Wildlife Trust will hold a ‘wild bites’ free event for children.

Then at 3pm on Sunday, July 19 there will be an open air concert will be given by Malvern Hills District Brass Band.
