PET owners in Ludlow and south Shropshire could see their dog on a beer pump.

Hobsons Brewery who are one of the main sponsors for this year’s Ludlow Dog Day are planning to create a special brew called ''Hair of the Dog'' to celebrate the occasion and require the help of the public to find a ''special dog'' to be the face of the beer on the pump.

Dog owners can submit a photograph of their dog for the judging panel to select a winner which will feature on the pump clip. The beer will be a pale ale and will be sold at the Hobsons Real Ale runner at the event.

Last years’ Ludlow Dog Day, which raised more than £16,000 for a number of charities, attracted more than 2500 people in many cases with their canine friends, from all over Shropshire, Herefordshire and Powis.

This year the Club plans to have even more displays, more competitions , more stalls and hopefully more of the public from an even wider catchment area now that the word has gone out what a great event it was last year.

Major beneficiaries of this year's event include St Michael's Hospice, The League of Friends of Ludlow Hospital and Canine Partners.

The Ludlow Rotary Club Dog Day is on Sunday, July 19 at Stokesay Court between 10am and 5pm.

Entries must be submitted by June 30, with one portrait (upright) photo only, either by post to Kate Pearce , Hobsons Brewery , Newhouse Farm, Tenbury Road, Cleobury Mortimer , Shropshire, DY14 8RD or via its website www.hobsons-brewery.co.uk/dogday.

The winner will receive a family ticket which will allow two adults and up to three children free entry on the day and a mixed case of beer. The entry ticket will also include free parking and a free programme on the day.
