THE Advertiser has had a sneak preview of one of the stunning gardens set to grace this weekend's Secret Gardens of Ludlow event.

We were invited into Maryvale, home of Richard and Alison Cundall, which is located at the junction of Mill Street and Camp Lane, to visit one of the gems hidden in the heart of Ludlow.

As our photos show fans of the traditional English garden and those with a keen eye for photography are in for a treat.

One of the gardens most striking features is an imposing brick wall that runs along Camp Lane.

The brick work cannot be seen from the usual public vantage points but once inside the garden it can be seen how it provides a wonderful backdrop for the array of flower and plant life inside.

There is also a Victorian castellated style wall to enjoy at the other end of the garden.

Although the wall is an anachronism in itself it succeeds in providing a sense of historical perspective reminding visitors that the gardens are situated within the old town walls of a once militarily important location.

Maryvale is just one of a host of gardens that will be opening up its gates on Sunday.

Now in its 26th year, The Secret Gardens of Ludlow this year boasts five new gardens, never before open to the public, which will offer up their secrets.

Other popular favourites will once again open to visitors.

The event provides a chance to explore an eclectic selection of gardens in Corve Street, Linney, Upper Linney and Mill Street

Secret Gardens is run by Ludlow Assembly Rooms Fundraising Events (LARFE) and is its biggest annual event.

The Secret Gardens of Ludlow are open from noon to 6pm on Sunday (June 14). To book, call Ludlow Assembly Rooms box office on 01584 878141 or visit ludlowassemblyrooms.co.uk.
