NOW in its 26th year, The Secret Gardens of Ludlow this year boasts five new gardens, never before open to the public, which will offer up their secrets, while some popular favourites once again open their garden gates to visitors. Explore an eclectic selection of gardens in Corve Street, Linney, Upper Linney and Mill Street, which, between them, offer a wealth of horticultural delights as well as spectacular views of Ludlow Castle, St Laurence’s Church and the River Teme.

The featured gardens are diverse in style and outlook, and will appeal to everyone: from keen gardeners looking to pick up a few tips, to those who are curious to visit these gems hidden in the heart of Ludlow.

After an afternoon of exploring these usually unseen treasures, you can enjoy afternoon tea in Maryvale’s spacious garden, while plants, greetings cards and ice creams are on sale in other gardens.

The Mini Museum at 25 Mill Street makes a welcome return with its intriguing collection of old restored woodworking tools and artefacts that shine a light on unusual pieces of horticultural history.

Secret Gardens is run by Ludlow Assembly Rooms Fundraising Events (LARFE) and is their biggest annual event. Last year, almost 2000 people participated, visiting from as far afield as Surrey and Norfolk. The contribution that LARFE makes to the Assembly Rooms is crucial to the ongoing success of the town’s lively community arts centre.

Event organiser Cy Jones says: “We are thrilled with this year’s line-up for Secret Gardens of Ludlow. Since it began in 1990, the event has grown year-on-year and has become a real fixture on people’s calendars. It’s such a delightful way to spend a summer’s afternoon and the money raised goes to a wonderful cause.”

The Secret Gardens of Ludlow are open from 12 noon to 6pm on Sunday, June 14. To book, call Ludlow Assembly Rooms box office on 01584 878141 or visit ludlowassemblyrooms.co.uk.
