ERIC and Lois Pierce have marked 70 remarkable years together.

The couple who live in Knowbury marked their special wedding anniversary on Tuesday (May 19) two days after a family gathering.

Eric, aged 95, was born in Cheshire but came to Bitterley in 1934 although he later moved away during a career in banking while, Lois, who is 93, originates from south Wales.

A Ludlow boyhood for Eric included being a pupil at the former Ludlow Grammar School.

He signed up for the army in 1939 but says that he was rejected on health grounds despite still being able to ‘potter about in the garden’ at the age of 95.

“They told me that I could not serve in the army and so it was back to the bank,” he said.

Eric and Lois were marred in Handsworth in Birmingham just 11 days after ‘Victory in Europe’ day.

The couple who have a daughter and three grand children came back to south Shropshire to live on retirement.

“We came back to south Shropshire after being away for 40 years because we liked the area,” Eric added.

Despite both being in their 90s the couple say that they enjoy good health although Eric has recently found that he is diabetic something he says 'that is not too much of an inconvenience.’
