THE darkness might not have descended in the way many expected but there was still a great spectacle on view for those with specialist equipment near the top of Titterstone Clee.

A large crowd of photographers and those keen on viewing a near total eclipse gathered at one of the highest spots in Shropshire to get the best possible view of an event that won't be seen again until 2026.

They included the Midland Stormchasers from Bridgnorth who travelled to the Hill to get the best possible vantage point.

And like others present they used special solar glasses and filters to view the eclipse safely

"It's a stunning sight. Well worth taking the time and effort to come up to such an amazing vantage point to observe," said its founder Victoria Royce-Williams.

Those present got lucky with the weather as the view was clear and accompanied by blue skies.

Linda Welsher travelled over from the West Midlands with her friend Sue Wright.

"I cannot believe it did not get darker," said Sue.

Ludlow professional photographer Joe Summerfield-Brookes from S&B Photography was using specialist equipment including a solar filter to shoot the eclipse.

"It is nice and high up here and the weather forecast was promising," said Joe.

This website will later publish some of S&B Photography eclipse photos.
