A TEAM of health advisers are coming to Craven Arms to raise awareness of diabetes.

Shropshire Rural Community Council’s Wise and Well Team is hosting two diabetes awareness events at Craven Arms Community Centre.

Experts in medication management, foot care, eye screening and nutrition will talk about the importance of managing diabetes in order to minimise its impact.

There are two types of diabetes, type one that can affect babies or occur at any stage in life and type two that has been linked to lifestyle and is more likely to show later in life.

Type one requires medication while type two can sometime be managed by changes in lifestyle.

The illness is potentially serious and can result in serious complications including damage to the heart and eye sight as well as, in some cases, limb amputation.

Shropshire Rural Community Council has held diabetes awareness events in towns around the county.

Diabetes is rapidly becoming a common condition which can have a serious impact if not managed correctly. This local Diabetes Awareness Programme will be of interest to anyone who has diabetes and their family and carers.

It would also be useful to anyone who feels at risk of developing diabetes.

The Diabetes Awareness Programme is an opportunity to hear advice from the experts and ask questions.

The two events will be on Wednesday, March 4 and again on Wednesday, March 11 between 10am and 12.30pm. As different issues will be covered in both sessions it is better to attend both if possible.

Attending the Diabetes Awareness Programme is free of charge but places must be booked in advance by phoning Susie on 01743 342160 or by emailing susie.hancock@shropshire-rcc.org.uk .
