A PARTNERSHIP between Ludlow Hospital’s League of Friends and a town business is helping the charity save more than £600 every year.
Volunteers were struggling to meet the cost of posting the charity’s newsletter to its 1,000 members until Nock Deighton estate agents stepped in with the offer of using its postal service.
So now the League of Friends uses the franking machine at the Nock Deighton office in the Bull Ring to send out its newsletter four times a year.
Peter Corfield, chairman of the League of Friends of Ludlow Hospital, said the arrangement was saving the charity about £640 a year.
“Nock Deighton have always been very active in providing support for the League of Friends and we are very grateful,” he said.
“We send out our newsletter to at least 800 addresses four times a year and with postal costs rising we got thinking about how we could reduce our costs, so Nock Deighton kindly offered us the use of their franking machine.
“By using their machine we save 20p on every newsletter, which adds up to a saving of £640 a year - that’s really quite a significant sum and it’s like getting a rather large donation every year.
“A lot of the work to run charitable organisations goes on behind the scenes, and anything that helps free up our time to get out there raising money is a huge benefit.”
Susan Northwood, Nock Deighton office manager, said the company was happy to help the League of Friends.
“We try to support the volunteers as much as we can because we know how important their work is to make Ludlow Hospital a more comfortable place for patients and visitors,” she said.
Since 2007, the League of Friends of Ludlow Hospital has raised £270,000 for facilities and equipment at the hospital, and is currently involved with projects totalling a further £100,000.
