REFURBISHED science laboratories have been opened at Ludlow School.

The work was undertaken during the summer and the early part of the autumn term.

This was all made possible by the successful bid for finance that was received from Shropshire Council to replace the old fashioned 1970s furniture in the main science block. The labs are now a modern facility being light and airy with a professional feel.

The school believes newly refurbished laboratories will have a positive impact on the learning of the pupils and they are all pleased with the new learning environment.

It is hoped that the new look and feel to the science labs will build on the successes of the school in achieving its best ever science results in 2013.

It is part of a package of nearly £500,000 spent improving schools in Ludlow and Cleobury Mortimer.

The money that ranged from £210,000 to £60,000 was allocated by Shropshire Council last summer to be spent over the next three years.

Biggest beneficiary was Ludlow School that four years ago missed out upon a major rebuild when the coalition Government pulled the plug on the plans.

The £210,000 was spent on a refurbishment of the science classrooms at the school.

The project involved new work benches and seating as well as a new gas and electricity supply as well as general redecoration.

The improvements are good news for Ludlow School that dates back half a century.

The school that has 734 pupils has been designated a specialist technology and sports college.
