A NEW cancer support group in Ludlow has seen its number of members double in just a few weeks.

The Ludlow Cancer Support Group that started in September now has 25 members.

The group met in November to hear clinical nurse specialist, Gaynor Davies, speak about pain relief and symptom control.

“The Ludlow Cancer Support Group held its first meeting in September”, said chairman, Rosemary Wood. “Since then, our membership has more than doubled, and real relationships are being forged”.

The group aims to provide a sociable and welcoming environment where through friendship and shared experience members can find additional strength to cope with their situation.

Meetings are in the parish room of St Peter’s Church, on Henley Road, from 11am to 12.45pm on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.

Car parking is available, and the next meeting, on Friday November 28, includes a painting session termed ‘Enjoy Painting’, led by local artist and lecturer, Bob Wallis.

The final meeting of the year takes place on Friday December 5 when the group celebrates Christmas with a session called

‘Keep the Home Fires Burning - Christmas in the Trenches.’

There will be war songs, music and poetry. Michael Evans will act as MC, Steve Dunachie will provide the music, and members of the Rockspring Community Choir will help swell the chorus.

Membership and attendance is free to anyone diagnosed with cancer, regardless of how long ago the diagnosis was made.
