THE nation's war dead have been remembered in Ludlow today in the year of the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.

A parade of uniformed groups left Ludlow Castle for St Laurence's Church this morning.

A service of remembrance was then led by the Venerable Colin Williams which included the playing of the last post by Paul Kemp, the deputy mayor of Ludlow.

During the service wreaths were laid by mayor Paul Draper, the Royal British Legion, the Royal Air Force Association and the Royal Naval Association, at the town’s war memorial located in the church porch.

Ludlow Town Concert Band, conducted by musical director Colin Reeves, played a repertoire of marching music to accompany the parade to church, and afterwards for the parade to the memorial in Market Square for wreath laying.

A number of road closures were in place during the event.
