PHILIP Dunne, the MP for Ludlow and the minister for defence procurement, has paid tribute to the armed forces to mark Remembrance Day.

“Remembrance this year is particularly poignant with both the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and the centenary of the start of the First World War,” said Mr Dunne,

“The commemoration of these two events, distanced by one hundred years, shows our on-going commitment to honour those who defend our country and its freedoms throughout its history.

“I am proud to be representing the Government and south Shropshire at the Cenotaph in Whitehall for the national commemoration this year.

“I hope local residents will continue to support the Poppy Appeal, which has been visualised so imaginatively at the Tower of London this year.

"It is right that we all show our respect and thanks to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defence of this nation and all of those who continue to serve our country.”
