A CAMPAIGN to have the names of the war dead added to a memorial in Ludlow is gathering pace.
A committee called the Ludlow Memorial Fund has been set up to oversee the campaign to have the names added to the peace memorial in Castle Square.
Fundraising has made a start towards obtaining the £8,000 needed to pay for the work.
"The 200 names will be added to the paving stones, the memorial itself won't be touched," said Margaret Edwards, one of the group.
"They will be in a v shape which means people can put wreaths down."
Ludlow Town Council is to discuss the issue on November 24 to see if the idea can be given the green light.
"If they say yes it will go ahead. Shropshire Council own the land and they have already said yes," said Ms Edwards.
"There will be spaces left for more names in the event of future conflicts."
A coffee morning held at Barclays Bank today has raised further funds for the campaign.
