EXTENSIONS to a GP surgery in Ludlow can go ahead.

Shropshire planners have given the ‘green light’ to enable improvements to the Portcullis Surgery.

NHS England has given the go-ahead for a sizeable extension at Portcullis Lane but has placed a deadline on the approval to complete the works by the end of March 2015.

This means a race against time but work can now start after the planning application was approved by Shropshire Council.

Pressure on space at the Portcullis Surgery and the GP practice were cited as major factors for the ill fated plan for the £27 million hospital and health village that was to have been built on Ludlow Eco Park.

It had been planned that both surgeries would be relocated on the Eco Park along with the new hospital.

However, the scheme was scuppered at the eleventh hour as a result of Government changes to the National Health Service.
