LUDLOW MP Philip Dunne maintains that the government’s economic plan remains on track.

This is based upon the recent growth figure that came days after other data that showed Government borrowing had increased and tax revenues are flat.

However, the Ludlow MP, who is also minister for defence procurement, remains optimistic after it was revealed that the national economy has grown by 0.7% in the last three months.

Growth has been based broadly over the four main sectors of the economy: construction, manufacturing, services and agriculture. The strongest growth was in the construction sector, which grew by 0.8% over the quarter.

“These figures give further credence to the Government’s long term economic plan,” said Mr Dunne.

“Economic growth of 3.0% over the past 12 months, built on growth across the four main sectors of economy, is great news for the country. The International Monetary Fund confirmed they expect Britain to be the fastest growing major advanced economy this year, clearly demonstrating how our economic plan is delivering for Britain.

“In Shropshire we are clearly seeing the benefits of this growth, with the number of job seekers allowance claimants halved since 2010, more jobs and apprenticeships on offer and greater success for our local businesses.”
