A LUDLOW company that has only been pressing apples for two years has won a ‘Great Taste Award’ for its Apple and Damson juice.

Often referred to as the ‘Oscars’ of the food industry business, partners Jane Cullen and Tish Dockerty are excited about their new found status.

“Looking at the results for our category we are up among some of the biggest well known names in juice production. We are very proud of our achievement,” said Tish.

The apple and damson juice is made with a mix of different varieties from the apple orchards out at Tickmore, Brimfield, just outside Ludlow and uses juice from the Shropshire Prune damsons, a particular variety which is common in the Shropshire area and is renowned for its delicious flavour and strong purple colour.

There will be a celebration of Shropshire Prune Damsons in September and October called ‘Damson Days’ starting at the Local Produce Market in Ludlow on Thursday September 25 with demos from local chefs and food producers.

It will end on October 9 when the market hosts competitions with produce made with damsons.

There will be a variety of restaurants and shops participating in tastings of damson products throughout the fortnight.
