THERE are plans to turn the site of a builders’ merchants in Ludlow into a new housing development.
Outline planning permission is being sought for the site currently occupied by Shropshire Building Supplies in New Road.
The proposal envisages 29 homes being created on the site that is just over half a hectare.
Under the scheme the current former engine shed would be retained but converted into three apartments, while the remainder of the site would be used to build 20 homes and three apartments.
Shropshire Building Supplies, that has occupied the site for the past 10 years, would move to another part of the town.
The land was at one time used to railway sidings on the outskirts of the town and included a goods and engine shed. Before being used as a builder’s merchants it was used by Shukers Car Sales for storage and also as an agricultural merchants.
It is an outline application to try to establish the principle of residential building there and if successful would be followed up with a more detailed scheme about the look of the development and the materials that would be used.
