THE possibility of a supermarket and petrol station in Rocks Green would damage local shops according to a Ludlow Councillor.

Vivienne Parry, who represents Ludlow on Shropshire Council and also sits on the town council, was commenting about a presentation about a potential development at Rocks Green behind the Dun Cow Cottage.

Ludlow Town Council has been told that if the proposal went ahead it could create up to 250 new jobs.

But the scheme is at its very early stages and the work needed to support a formal planning application has still not been done.

Simon Hoare from a property development company outlined the idea at a meeting of Ludlow Council’s representative committee.

No supermarket chain has been linked with the potential scheme.

“I would have very serious concern as trading conditions are very tough and this would kill some of the smaller shops in the town,” said Cllr Parry.

“It is very important that Ludlow retains its character with many small independent shops.”
