Ludlow voters urged to register for European elections
PEOPLE in Ludlow and south Shropshire are being urged to make sure they can vote at the forthcoming elections to the European Parliament.
With the European Parliamentary Elections taking place on Thursday May 22 Shropshire Council is urging voters to make sure they are registered to vote in time.
The deadline for registration is fast approaching and if people want to vote they need to made sure they are eligible by Tuesday May 6.
“People are talking about the elections, but you’ll only be able to have your say on who represents you in the European Parliament if you’re registered to vote by the deadline of Tuesday May 6.
“Registering is quick and simple. All you have to do is visit www.aboutmyvote.co.uk and print off a registration form,” said Claire Porter, the returning officer.
“Even if you think you’re already registered, it’s really important to double check. Many people think they are automatically registered because they pay council tax, but this isn’t true.”
People can check by calling on 0345 678 9015.
They are able to apply for a postal vote until Wednesday May 7 and the deadline for applying for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday May 14.
Polling stations will be open across the county on Thursday May 22 from 7am to 10pm.
Shropshire, along with 29 other council areas which make up the West Midlands region, is due to elect seven MEPs to represent the region.
