POLICE in Ludlow have confirmed they used a Taser gun to subdue a man being taken to hospital.
The incident happened after police were called to a house in Ludlow to help with a man with mental health problems.
Subsequently the West Mercia force issued a statement confirming that a Taser had been used.
"A 33-year-old man detained by police under the Mental Health Act became violent while being taken by ambulance from Ludlow to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital," said the statement.
“As a result, a police officer travelling in the ambulance used his Taser device to subdue the man while protecting himself and the ambulance crew. 
"The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assaulting the officer.  The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon (February 26) after police were called to an address in Ludlow following concern for the man's safety."
