A NUMBER of rural roads in the region are still proving treacherous for motorists – as this picture proves.

This minibus got stuck last week in a muddy pothole on an unclassified road in Rosedale, near Leysters.

Jon Boughton, who took the picture, said that only 4x4 vehicles can now drive down Heath Road.

Mr Boughton said he wrote to Amey earlier this month and the authorities have since put up a road closed sign, leaving drivers with a seven-mile detour.

He also called Herefordshire Council’s highways department and was told that the road had been allocated as a category four.

“I enquired the meaning of this and was told that it could take up to six months to repair,” he added.

“The state of Herefordshire roads is appalling and the level of service is totally unacceptable.”

Herefordshire Council is receiving an average of 50 reports of highway defects a day, more than double the rate this time last year.
