Gill George of Ludlow says patients deserve better than this

ACCESS to a GP service is absolutely vital to keep us well.

It matters to all of us, but most of all to older people and to people who use a GP service frequently.

It’s just not on for any of us to say, “I can drive out the the Eco Park, so I don’t care about the people who can’t drive or aren’t well enough to use the bus”.

This isn’t about ‘inconvenience’ to people. The research shows that if you can’t get to your GP easily, you’re more likely to get admitted to hospital as an emergency.

The NHS bureaucrats who decided to move our GPs didn’t bother to consult – and now they’re doing what they’ve done for two years: telling us, “If you complain, you’ll lose your hospital and your GP service”.

Is there any evidence at all that keeping a branch surgery in Ludlow jeopardises the new hospital?

No, of course not.

We’ve asked the NHS bosses repeatedly and all they’ve come up with is that a GP surgery in Ludlow isn’t one of their priorities.

We deserve better than this. It’s time for a real debate about healthcare, instead of the divisive game playing that’s going on just now.

GILL GEORGE, Corve Street, Ludlow.
