Derek James of Bromyard Road, Tenbury, hopes to mark 50 years since the Beatles' visit
8:00am Friday 4th May 2012 in Letters
AS a regular walker through the Burgage I was pleasantly surprised to see the four banners that appeared by the children's play area and had to stop to read them, with an interesting insight into Tenbury and the charming poems by local children. The last banner was about the Beatles visiting Tenbury on April 15, 1963. Well obviously, 2013 will be the 50th anniversary of their legendary visit to the town. What a coup it would be if perhaps Sir Paul McCartney could be persuaded to re-visit the town and perhaps play a set at the newly refurbished Regal to give it a memorable start to its renaissance.
It most certainly would put Tenbury Wells in the public eye and create lots of interest in the Regal as an entertainment centre.
People win the lottery so perhaps the right people could take a punt on a simple idea and create local history and leave something people will be talking about in another 50 years time.
DEREK JAMES, BROMYARD ROAD, TENBURY.
